| Ar-Joy Farm is owned
and operated by Duane and Marilyn Hershey in southeastern Pennsylvania.
They recently expanded from a 65 tie stall barn to a 400 cow parlor and free stall
barn. The cows are milked three times a day in a double 12 parallel
parlor with a small special needs area beside the parlor. The free stall
barn is bedded with sand. The sand is managed by a flushing large amounts
of water in the alleys and is seperated by a two stage pit system. The
water from the second stage pit is recycled to re-flush the free stall area.
Cows are fed
a TMR of corn silage, haylege, soy protein, minerals, shelled corn and hay.
They are fed four or more times a day.
Ar-Joy Farms owns 140
acres and farms an additional 450 acres. They raise corn for silage, haylege,
beans and wheat. They have 11 employees along with 4 children who also contribute
to the farm. |
